John G. Irvin, Jr.
Area of Practice
John is active in a general civil practice with an emphasis on civil litigation. He has represented both defendants and plaintiffs in federal and state courts, and has handled numerous workers' compensation claims for employers and employees. He has practiced cases involving personal injuries, including traumatic brain injuries and wrongful death. He has been involved in contract litigation, insurance defense, equine litigation, and municipal liability cases, involving prisoner abuse and sexual harassment. John also has experience in the areas of estate and trust administration, wills, employment law and education law having represented a regional university for four years. He has litigated matters involving real estate broker's commission disputes, and employment issues including wrongful termination, discrimination, and the enforceability of covenants not to compete. John also has experience in handling Section 1031 tax-free exchanges as qualified intermediary.

- Acted as counsel to regional university for four years, attending board meetings, providing legal advice to human resources department, and advising university on contracts, employment and disciplinary matters.

- Represented county governments defending liability, sexual harassment, and prisoner abuse claims.
- Represented county governments in numerous workers compensation claims, and represented plaintiffs in many workers compensation claims.
- Represented insurance company in bad faith claim involving credit life insurance.
- Represented employers before the Kentucky Human Rights Commission and the Lexington Fayette Urban County Human Rights Commission.
- Founded K&S General Exchange, LLC with partner D. Barry Stilz to serve as qualified intermediary in Section 1031 tax-free exchanges.
